Mark Fa'avae's Profile

Mark Fa'avae is Samoan-born and has lived in Nelson since he was fourteen. Art teachers at Nayland College and the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology remember Fa'avae’s work stood out, and he had an ability to draw realistically, but also enjoyed exploring abstract styles.
He returned to his home of Afega, Samoa in 2004, where he realised the diversity of his life in New Zealand compared with life in Samoa.
His works on board with acrylics usually reflect his story and the age-old traditions of Samoa. Mark now lives in Nelson with his wife and son.
