Janet Bathgate's Profile

'After graduating from Ilam, in the 1970's with a Diploma in Fine Arts honours in Printmaking, I worked in the museum and art gallery world until the 1980's. Since then I have combined work as a freelance designer with painting, drawing, assemblage and printmaking. I have travelled extensively, both on arts funded educational grants, self-funded study trips and on design consultant contracts.'

Recurrent themes in Janet Bathgate's work are cycles of life within the natural world, and the interplay and negotiation between cultural identities within the Pacific. Melding art and design and exploring the boundaries between art-making techniques is of particular interest to her.
