Anna Caselberg's Profile

Anna Caselberg was born in Mapua in 1942, daughter of
Toss & Edith Woollaston.
Anna learnt a lot about painting technique and colour from her father whose inspiring visions of landscape were breaking new ground.
Anna married John Caselberg in 1960 and they settled in Dunedin in 1970 and for over 20 years Anna developed a body of work from their Maryhill home.

Anna had learned a daily discipline of preparing for painting from her father. Always travelling with a sketch book and pencil, always drawing, sketching in quick lines, a hill, a sea scape, a distant view.

Over the years Anna also painted in protest to think big schemes and spraying projects, using her art as her voice. She became known for her strong atmospheric work on the Otago Harbour exhibiting in the 70's and 80's to a faithful following. Several of the oils in this exhibition are examples of her harbour paintings.

When John retired from teaching he and Anna spent a lot of time in Central Otago where Anna produced a large body of work.
The watercolours in this show are from that time.
Some travel and some time spent in Australia for the pair followed until they returned to Broad Bay until their deaths in 2004.

These paintings are now in the possession of Anna's daughter Sara Addy who lives in Oamaru.
Her wish is that these paintings are made available for others to enjoy.
