STIGMATA
This exhibition of landscape paintings is based on observations on social and cultural differences and beliefs. The imagery draws on ironies and inconsistencies the artist has encountered in the landscape.
Under the theme of Stigmata, the artist is able to refer to several interpretations relating to cultural viewpoints.
In some works the same subject appears twice, yet is seen from two differing viewpoints. To reflect this, these images are painted in 'stereovision' – two images that appear almost the same yet are derived from slightly different angles.
Other interpretations of stigmata in the exhibition include landscapes that carry marks or blemishes that stand out from the familiar, or projected image, of New Zealand.
