Brent Forbes was born in Timaru, South Canterbury in 1968 and studied in Aoraki Polytechnic in 1989 and Nelson's Art School in 1994. He has since returned to live in Timaru.

He has been exhibiting since 1988, throughout New Zealand, with works in private collection in New Zealand, Australia, Germany, USA and Britian.
